QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy or Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee Certificate (FPGEC) by National Association of Boards of Pharmacy
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Pharmacist.
- Must be licensed to practice Pharmacy in the State of Texas by Texas Board of Pharmacy.
- IV Certification or completion of IV certification coursework.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Prepares, reviews, and dispenses medication orders by interpreting physician orders and detecting therapeutic incompatibility and advising on interventions. Manage pharmacy operations, supervising staff, performing administrative duties, and buying and selling non-pharmaceutical merchandise. Assess the identity, strength, and purity of medications. Teach pharmacy students serving as interns in preparation for their graduation or licensure. Provide educational information for other pharmacists, doctors, and/or nursing staff for the benefit of patients. Review prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability. Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage. Analyze prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions. Order and purchase pharmaceutical supplies, medical supplies, and drugs under supervision, maintaining stock and storing and handling it properly. Maintain records, such as pharmacy files, patient records, charge system files, inventories, and registries of hazardous drugs, narcotics, and controlled drugs. Collaborate with other health professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of drugs and drug regiments, providing advice on drug applications and characteristics. Compound and dispense medications as prescribed by doctors and nursing staff, by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, or oversee these activities. Prepare sterile solutions and infusions for use in nursing homes, when IV certified. Plan, implement, and maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
